On August 21, Bradford Academy was honored to host a segment of Lexia Learning’s Michigan Science of Reading tour. During an educational session facilitated by Lexia Learning representatives, our literacy instructors dove deep into the body of research surrounding the Science of Reading. Instructors also participated in hands-on exercises to practice the application of structured literacy procedures in their classrooms.

The Science of Reading study shares an explicit, systematic, cumulative, diagnostic and responsive approach to literacy instruction that equips educators to meet each child where they’re at. Through this approach, students develop a strong foundation in areas such as phonemic awareness, phonics instruction, vocabulary development, fluency and reading comprehension. Carrie Paddock, Choice Schools Director of Literacy shares, “Each of these foundational skills make up a crucial portion of a student’s journey toward becoming proficient readers. When each child’s unique needs are met with the right support, it boosts their confidence and promotes equity in the classroom.”

At Bradford Academy, we strive to bring the top educational tools into our classrooms. The Science of Reading seminar with Lexia Learning was highly beneficial in helping us stay sharp with the most effective teaching methods. We are proud to have been chosen as a stop on the Michigan Science of Reading tour and eagerly anticipate leveraging the resources and insights gained from this impactful experience.
