In 10th grade ELA, we cover American literature. We read American literature classics and incorporate today’s novels as well. We also focus on the writing process and oral speaking skills.
This course will encompass U.S. history from 1877 to the present. After a review of American history prior to 1877, we will delve into American Industrialism, WWI, the Great Depression, WWII, the Civil Rights movement, the Cold War and globalization. We will also discuss the ever-changing political realm and how it has impacted America’s history and geography. It is important to realize that history is more than just names, dates and timelines. US History is the story of our nation, with each decision affecting another, and many past decisions still affecting us today.
Earth science teaches students about the planet they live on. Major units include: oceanography, freshwater, rocks and minerals, geologic time, meteorology and astronomy. Students do many group activities, labs, research projects and current event activities.
The 10th-grade geometry course covers logical thinking in mathematics through the use of geometric definitions, theorems and proofs. Geometric terms are combined with algebra skills in the study of lines, angles, triangles and other polygons.
ACT English prepares students for the ACT English and ACT Reading tests. We focus on reading comprehension, grammar and writing skills. We also cover many test-taking and study skills. To assess ACT preparation, students take the PLAN test.
Chemistry is a challenging and fun course. The concepts we cover in this class will tie together many previous science concepts and demonstrate the relationships and relevance of things in your everyday lives.
